Quirky Stuff - Lutefisk Capital of the USA

Madison, MN

Many residents of Minnesota have strong Norwegian roots. A traditional food you will see during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season is the much loved (and equally as much hated) lutefisk, a dried, salted cod that is preserved in lye. The city of Madison proclaims itself the “Lutefisk Capital of the USA” in recognition of its proud Norwegian heritage. To represent this, the town has erected what is believed to be a statue of the world’s largest codfish.
